Fall is an exciting and fun time of the year, especially with the holidays quickly approaching and the weather changing. Fall is also a great time of year to think of your smile, especially considering with all the holidays all the good food you’ll eat, some of them high in sugar. If possible, our dentist associates here in Evanston, Wyoming, want to encourage you to do all you can to ensure a strong and healthy smile as well as gums this autumn. Our dental team recommends you follow some of the rules laid out below.

First, clean your smile regularly by keeping up on your dental care routine. This includes brushing your teeth every morning and night, flossing your smile before bed, rinsing your mouth daily, and visiting your dentist for a dental exam and cleaning at least twice a year. These things can help you have a strong and healthy smile that will last for years to come. As you clean your gums and teeth, please remember to use dental hygiene products tested and approved by the American Dental Association. They focus on making sure your dental products are efficient and safe.

Second, wear a mouthguard if you play autumn sports. An athletic mouthguard is a reliable and strong appliance that can help protect your jaw, teeth, and gums when you come into contact with a hard force such as a ball or another player. If you don’t wear a mouthguard, there is a higher chance of you suffering an oral injury, like knocked-out, cracked, or broken teeth when you get hit by hard objects. Remember to always wear a mouthguard while you’re participating in fall sports.
